Male Netizen Goes Viral for Sharing Photos of Candies He Took From Wake
SUPERSTITIOUS BELIEF – A male netizen goes viral online for sharing photos of candies he took from a wake locally known as ‘Burol’.
In the Philippines, it’s a common belief that you shouldn’t take food home from a wake. The superstition says that the spirit of the deceased might follow you. But for a social media user Dyosa Pockoh, this old belief should be reconsidered, especially when the food served is too good to resist.
Recently, Francis Valle Suayan shared some pictures on Facebook of candies he took home from a wake. The post quickly circulated on social media and garnered various reactions from the online community.
Suayan commented that maybe it’s time to rethink these superstitions, especially since it’s already 2024.
“Sabe nila bawal daw maguwi ng pagkain sa burol. Pero kapag ganito po ang nakahayin eh baguhin na naten ang nakagisnan naten pamahiin dahil 2024 na,” he said.
Francis also shared some thoughts on how funeral customs have changed over time. For example, they noticed that at a recent prayer gathering or “padasal,” the leader decided to serve food before the prayers started. The reason given was that it’s hard to focus on praying when you’re hungry.
The netizens humorously reviewed the food served at the event. The chicken in yellow sauce was tasty but a bit salty, the soup was good but didn’t have enough broth for their liking, the juice was a bit bland but okay for someone with diabetes, and the vegetable lumpia was perfectly made.
They gave the food an 8 out of 10, joking that they had to be careful with their score since they were just a guest who ate without actually participating in the prayers.
As for the prayer leaders, Dyosa rated them 4 out of 10. Some people responded well during the prayers, probably because they had already eaten, while others seemed sleepy from being too full. Dyosa also noticed that some attendees packed up food to take home, saying it was for their pets, but it seemed like many people had the same idea.
