PAGASA Says Habagat to Bring Rains Over Parts of PH

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that the southwest monsoon will bring scattered rains over some parts of the country.

On Saturday (August 24, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The southwest monsoon will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA weather specialist Daniel James Villamil reported that Southwest Monsoon or habagat will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers over the western sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

“Makikita dito sa ating latest satellite images itong makakapal na kaulapan na nakakaapekto sa kanlurang bahagi ng ating bansa ay ang patuloy pa ring epekto ng pag-iral ng southwest monsoon,” Villamil said.

A tropical cyclone is being monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. Severe Tropical Storm Shanshan is located 2,055 kilometers east of Central Luzon.

It has maximum sustained winds at 110 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 135 kph, and moving northward at 15 kph.

Habagat will bring cloudy weather conditions with scattered rains and thunderstorms over MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

“Itong hanging habagat ay magdudulot ng mga pag-ulan o yung mga tuloy-tuloy na kaulapan at pag-ulan ngayong araw sa kanlurang bahagi ng Southern Luzon, Visayas at sa Mindanao. Mas maaliwalas na panahon naman ang inaasahan sa Metro Manila and nalalabing bahagi ng ating bansa,” he added.

The localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

The weather agency advised the residents in the affected areas to take precautionary measures for possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains and severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over Southern Luzon, the rest of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will be slight to moderate, according to PAGASA.
