PAGASA Says Southwest Monsoon to Bring Rains Over Parts of the Country

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that the southwest monsoon will bring cloudy to rainy conditions over parts of the country.

On Tuesday (August 13, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Habagat will affect the country’s weather conditions.

Weather specialist Rhea Torres reported that the southwest monsoon or habagat will continue to affect Luzon and the western section of Visayas.

“Patuloy paring umiiral ang southwest monsoon sa bahagi ng Luzon at western section ng Visayas. Meron din tayong mi-no-monitor na kaulapan kaya asahan pa rin natin ang posibilidad ng kalat kalat na pagulan sa ilang bahagi ng Northern Luzon, Central Luzon, at pati sa Extreme Northern Luzon,” Torres said.

Habagat will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Ilocos Region, Zambales, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands.

The weather system will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Western Visayas, and Negros Island Region.

“Sa nalalabi namang bahagi ng bansa, generally fair weather conditions ang mararanasan, wala naman tayong namamataan na kaulapang posibleng magdulot ng maghapon o buong araw na pagulan,” she added.

The localized thunderstorms will bring similar weather conditions over the remaining parts of the country.

PAGASA is also monitoring a tropical cyclone outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. Tropical Storm Ampil was last spotted located 1,570 kilometers east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon.

Ampil has maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center, with gustiness of up to 80 kph. It is moving slowly northwestward. However, it will not directly affect the country as it is already moving away.

“Itong si Ampil ay malayo sa ating kalupaan hindi natin inaasaan makaapekto sa anumang bahagi ng bansa pati na rin sa mga susunod na araw,” Torres explained.

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over Luzon and the remaining parts of the country, according to PAGASA.
