Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo and other athletes arrive in the Philippines.
Carlos Yulo and Team Philippines come home to heroes’ welcome and the two-time gold medalist heads directly to President Bongbong Marcos.
Olympic medalists Carlos Yulo, Nesthy Petecio, and Aira Villegas will be welcomed by Philippine President Bongbong Marcos. Just recently, the athletes from the Paris Olympics 2024 have finally arrived at the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City.
They boarded a chartered Philippine Airlines flight from Dubai and the Team Philippines was headed by Yulo.
On the flight were bronze medalists Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio, fellow boxers Carlo Paalam, Hergie Bacyadan, and Eumir Marcial, tracksters John Cabang Tolentino and Lauren Hoffman, weightlifter John Ceniza, Elreen Ando, and Vanessa Sarno, and pole vault star EJ Obiena were also on the flight.
However, golfers Bianca Pagdanganan and Dottie Ardina and gymnasts Levi Jung-Ruivivar, Emma Malabuyo, and Aleah Finnegan are not able to grace tonight’s ceremonies.
After meeting with their loved ones, they will all be headed directly to the Malacañang Palace to meet PBBM and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos. The athletes will receive cash incentives and Yulo will be given a Presidential Medal of Merit for his golden victory.
On Wednesday afternoon, a Heroes’ Welcome parade will be held for him from the Aliw Theater to the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. In this year’s Olympics, two gold medals and two bronze medals were brought home.
As much as we know, Yulo ruled the floor exercise and vault of the men’s artistic gymnastics competition. He is the first double Olympic champion of the Philippines. Based on Republic Act 10699, he will receive Php 20 million which is Php 10 million for each of the gold he was able to get.
