Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Says Filipinos Deserve Better on Government Services
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President said that she will show the government officials “how to command” on solving flood problems in the Philippines.
The most recent flood that has hit the Philippines, Typhoon Carina, left countless Filipino families homeless. It brought heavy rains and strong winds that left several areas under a State of Calamity.
The heavy rains and strong winds caused by Typhoon Carina triggered the Southwest monsoon or the habagat in the country. Several families also lost their livelihood due to the typhoon.
Following the impacts of the typhoon in several areas in the country most especially the cities in Luzon which were left in deep flooding for several days, President Bongbong Marcos called for a national flood control in the country.
Previously, a Manila solon was left disappointed after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) admitted that the country has no national flood control plan despite massive funding.
According to the DPWH, 5,500 finished flood control projects that Pres. Marcos announced during his SONA were just immediate relief projects that began during the Duterte administration.
DPWH Secretary Manny Bonoan said that there are several master plans in 18 major river basins that are being prepared now. Following the flood issues in the Philippines, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte said that she will show the government officials “how to command” on the flood problems in the Philippines.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, in a statement, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte recalled that she experienced deep floods in Davao City then when she was the mayor of the city twice. She said that some 30 people died in one of these incidents.
Duterte admitted that some people dying due to flood amid her term as the mayor still pains her thus, she is using her position, platform, and resources to be the voice “to show our government officials how to command”.
The Vice President recalled that the previous administration which was led by her father, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, has began a master plan for flood control. The said master plan was published in 2023.
Based on the report, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte reminded the Marcos administration that it might like to fund the infrastructure projects that are based on the master plan. She also expressed a speculation that the government may have a personal reason in allegedly being unsure.
“O baka naman may alinlangan pa hinggil dito dahil Duterte ang mayor at mas mamarapatin nilang gibain na lang?” the Vice President said.
Vice Pres. Duterte stressed that “we, Filipinos, deserve better. We, Filipinos, should be the best”.
