Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Davao Occidental, August 10, 2024
EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 5.0 magnitude quake in Davao Occidental, August 10, 2024. Here are the details.
Following the 4.2 magnitude earthquake in Surigao del Sur early today, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. According to the agency, the quake recently hit Davao Occidental and it has a magnitude of 5.0.
The earthquake that struck Davao Occidental, Saturday, August 10, 2024, was tectonic in origin. A tectonic quake is a shaking which is a product when the Earth’s crust breaks because of the geological forces on the rocks and the adjoining plates which result to chemical and physical changes.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao Occidental was located at 05.25°North, 126.82°East – 149 km South 60° East of Jose Abad Santos. It had a depth of focus of 050 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake but there may be aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was felt at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. No instrumental intensity was recorded as well.
