Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Davao Oriental, August 3, 2024
EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 6.0 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental, August 3, 2024. Here are the details.
Following the 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Surigao del Sur early today, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. According to the agency, the quake recently hit Davao Oriental and it has a magnitude of 6.0.
The earthquake that struck Davao Oriental, Saturday, August 3, 2024, was tectonic in origin. A tectonic quake is a shaking which is a product when the Earth’s crust breaks because of the geological forces on the rocks and the adjoining plates which result to chemical and physical changes.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao Oriental was located at 07.89°North, 127.45°East – 103 km North 70° East of Baganga. It had a depth of focus of 010 kilometers. The quake-recording bureau noted that it is an aftershock of the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Surigao del Sur early today.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that aftershocks are not expected from the said quake as well as damages. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. No instrumental intensity was recorded as well.
