DBM Speaks on Office of Vice President Sara Duterte’s Budget Request for 2025

OFFICE OF VICE PRESIDENT – The office of VP Sara Duterte requests for Php 2 billion budget for 2025 with zero confidential funds.

Every year, the Department of Budget and Management, more popularly called DBM, receives and assesses the budget proposals of the different government offices in the Philippines. Among these are the fund requests of the Office of the President and the OVP.

It was earlier reported that the office of Pres. Bongbong Marcos is seeking more than P1 billion budget for his trips in 2025. The said fund intends to cover both the domestic and international travels of the chief executive next year.

Recently, the Department of Budget and Management also spoke on the budget request of the office of Vice President Sara Duterte. It is 8% higher than the budget sought by the OVP last year.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the office of Vice President Sara Duterte is asking P2.037 billion budget for 2025. According to budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, the OVP is not requesting for any confidential or intelligence funds for next year.

The spending of the Confidential Funds of the OVP became a trending topic in the Philippines last year. The said budget is allocated for the national security and peace and order.

The controversy led to the slashing of the confidential funds of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s office and several government agencies. Here are the state entities that were denied of the CIFs:

  • Office of the Vice President (OVP)
  • Department of Education (DepEd)
  • Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT)
  • Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA)
  • Department of Agriculture (DA)

The Php 1.23 billion for confidential funds in 2024 was re-allocated among the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA), the National Security Council (NSC), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

Based on the report, with regards to the P2.037 billion budget sought by the office of Vice President Sara Duterte for 2025, the P188.5 million is proposed to be allocated for personal services, P1.79 billion for maintenance and other operating expenses, and P56 million for capital outlay.
