6 Goats Found Dead in Negros Oriental After Alleged Attack by ‘Sigbin’

Six Goats Killed in Mysterious Attack Believed to Involve ‘Sigbin’

Six goats were found dead after being reportedly attacked by an unidentified animal, which is believed to be a ‘sigbin’.

A “sigbin” is a creature from Philippine folklore, particularly in the Visayan region. It is described as a supernatural being or mythological creature that is said to have a frightening appearance and is known for preying on livestock.

The sigbin is often described as having a dog-like or goat-like appearance, with features that can vary from region to region. It may have long, sharp fangs or claws, and it is sometimes depicted with a very gaunt or skeletal frame.

On July 29, 2024 (Monday), Jaycee Cadevida, a male resident of Barangay Pinyahan, Bendoy, Negros Oriental, was left stunned after finding his six goats dead. He had no choice but to bury the lifeless animals, which were reportedly attacked by an unidentified animal.

The unusual situation quickly caught the attention of social media users after Jaycee’s child posted about it on Facebook. Many online commenters speculated that the attack might have been caused by a “sigbin,” a creature from local folklore believed to prey on livestock.

Jaycee, however, does not believe that a sigbin was responsible. According to his account, he left the goats in an empty lot after grazing them that afternoon. When he returned the next morning, he discovered that the goats had been killed and had deep wounds on their bodies.

The owner’s 14-year-old son even witnessed the attack, claiming to have seen the creature in the act. The child described the attacker as resembling a large dog with long fangs. This description, combined with the mysterious nature of the incident, has fueled ongoing discussions and theories among locals and online communities.

The incident has raised concerns about safety and the need for vigilance in protecting livestock. While the exact identity of the attacker remains unknown, the case emphasizes the importance of investigating such incidents thoroughly to prevent future incidents.
