National PTA Official Says Face-to-Face Classes Essential for Genuine Student Achievement Amid Pandemic Honor Student Trends

The National Parent Teacher PTA reported that nearly all students were honor students during the pandemic.

According to Lito Senieto, the Executive Vice President of the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA), nearly all students were considered honor students during the pandemic.

Senieto states that it was largely due to the nature of remote learning, which made it easier for students to copy answers or get help from others.

The National PTA official explained that during the pandemic, many students were labeled as honor students because they had high grades, often a minimum average of 90. With modular learning, it was easy for students to find answers online or get help from family members, which led to a situation where almost every student in a class received honor awards.

“Nu’ng experience natin during the time of pandemic, ang daming mga honor student. ‘Yung honor student kasi minimum average of 90. Siyempre kaunti ang mistake kasi modular, kinokopya, sinubmit. Almost all of the learners sa isang section mga honor awardees sila lahat, ganoon ang nangyari, so ibang epekto,” Senieto said.

The latter emphasized that face-to-face classes are better for ensuring that students are genuinely learning and completing their work on their own. Unlike modular learning, where students could easily cheat or seek assistance, in-person classes allow teachers to better explain lessons and monitor student progress more effectively.

“Mas maganda po ang face-to -face na panukala kasi ang modular… alam n’yo naman ang modular puwede i-Google ‘yung sagot, humiram sa kapitbahay, sagutin ng ate at kuya, ng magulang,” he added.

Senieto’s comments point out the importance of face-to-face education in maintaining academic integrity and ensuring that students are truly grasping the material. While remote learning had its advantages, such as flexibility, it also presented challenges in keeping up with the standards of learning and assessment.

Face-to-face classes offer a more controlled environment where teachers can engage directly with students, making it easier to support their educational development and ensure honest evaluations.
