Vivamax Subscriber Identities Spreading Now After Data Leak

Vivamax Data Breach Compromises 6.8 Million Subscribers

Vivamax subscriber identities are reportedly spreading online after a serious data breach affecting over 6.8 million subscriber accounts.

Vivamax, a popular streaming service in the Philippines, is facing a major issue after a serious data breach. Over 6.8 million subscriber accounts have been affected, with their personal information now on sale on the dark web.

On July 26, 2024 (Friday), Deep Web Konek reported the breach. Hackers gained access to Vivamax’s database using a method called API scraping, which allowed them to steal a large amount of sensitive data.

The data includes users’ full names, phone numbers, email addresses, and even details like subscription IDs, payment methods, and parental control PINs. The leaked information is divided into two main files:

  • Subscriber Data: This file, about 2.08 GB in size, includes personal details such as names, contact information, and subscription specifics.
  • Transaction Data: Approximately 1.0 GB of data with detailed records of each user’s transactions, including subscription types and payment information.

The leak of such detailed personal and financial information is a serious concern. It opens the door to potential identity theft and phishing attacks. The parental control PINs that were leaked are particularly worrying, as they could put children at risk.

As of this writing, Vivamax has not commented on the breach. The company is expected to make a statement soon about how they plan to handle the situation and what steps they are taking to protect users.

Vivamax subscribers are advised to stay vigilant, check their financial accounts for any unusual activity, and update their passwords, especially if they are similar to those used for Vivamax.

Users can add Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to help improve account security. Account holders are advised to be cautious of any unexpected emails or messages that ask for personal information, as these may be phishing attempts.
