Animal Shelter Appeals for Help After 12 Dogs Die Due to Typhoon Carina

Animal Shelter Seeks Help After Losing 12 Dogs to Massive Flooding

An animal shelter in Montalban, Rizal, is appealing for help after 12 dogs died during the devastation caused by Typhoon Carina.

Recently, a Facebook user named BeeBom Santos, the founder of WoofGang Pack Phils Inc. shared that 12 out of their 52 dogs died due to the severe flooding caused by Typhoon Carina. The post garnered various reactions from the netizens.

Santos said that the shelter had moved to Montalban in 2019, believing it to be a safe location since they were informed that flooding was minimal. However, Typhoon Carina’s impact on July 24, 2024 changed their assumptions.

The floodwaters rose quickly and unexpectedly, reaching waist-deep levels outside the shelter. The situation worsened when the caretakers were unable to return to the shelter after rescuing their own families, who were also in danger.

Despite the worsening conditions, the caretakers swam back to try and save the dogs, but the water had risen so high that only the roof was visible.

Miraculously, some dogs were found alive after the caretakers returned hours later. Unfortunately, 12 dogs did not survive the flood. The remaining 40 dogs were severely traumatized and had to be moved to a temporary shelter in Tanay, Rizal, as roads were impassable.

After losing dogs, the shelter is dealing with financial and logistical challenges. They have lost essential supplies, including dog food, bowls, vitamins, and medicines, all swept away by the flood.

The facility’s appliances and other equipment were also destroyed, adding to their struggles. Despite the hardships, the shelter is committed to helping the surviving dogs recover. They are working to provide food, medicine, and comfort to the traumatized animals.

The shelter remains determined to rebuild and find a permanent new home for the dogs. Those who wish to support the shelter can contribute via GCash. Every bit of help is appreciated as they face this challenging period.
