PAGASA Says Typhoon Carina and Enhanced Habagat to Bring Rains Over Parts of PH

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that Typhoon Carina will bring rains over parts of the country.

On Thursday (July 25, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Typhoon Carina and habagat will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA reported that Typhoon Carina had left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). It was last spotted 335 kilometers north of Itbayat, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 215 kph.

Sa kasalukuyan, itong si Carina ay lumabas na nga ng  Philippine Area of Responsibility ngayong 6:20 ng umaga po,” PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres said.

However, Carina will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon which will bring moderate to intense rains over the western section of Luzon. Moderate to heavy rains are also still expected over Metro Manila.

For the next days, due to the effect of the habagat or southwest monsoon, some parts of Luzon will still be affected by heavy rains […] But if you can see our forecast, rains will persist over the weekend but lesser areas will be affected by the strong rains,” Torres explained.

However, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals are still up in the following areas:

TCWS No. 2

  • Batanes

TCWS No. 1

  • Babuyan Islands
  • the northern portion of mainland Cagayan (Claveria, Santa Praxedes, Sanchez-Mira, Pamplona, Abulug, Ballesteros, Aparri, Camalaniugan, Buguey, Santa Teresita, Santa Ana, Gonzaga)
  • The northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Burgos, Bangui, Pagudpud, Dumalneg, Adams)

Meanwhile, a red rainfall warning is still raised over Ilocos Sur, Benguet, La Union, and Pangasinan and an orange heavy rainfall warning was also raised over Ilocos Norte, Tarlac, Zambales, Bataan, and Pampanga.

Yellow heavy rainfall warning is still up in portions of Abra, Metro Manila, Rizal, and Bulacan, according to PAGASA.

The inclement weather conditions prompted various airports and seaports to suspend some activities or entire operations. Some LGUs also declared the suspension of classes in flood-affected areas.
