Sen. Risa Hontiveros Speaks on Mayor Alice Guo’s Social Media Activities
RISA HONTIVEROS – The lady Senator who leads the POGO investigations reacted to suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo’s statement.
Suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo has yet to be arrested by the Senate’s Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms. The authorities which were tasked to serve the arrest order against Mayor Guo failed to locate her.
The Senate committee handling the case of Mayor Guo cited her for contempt after she skipped the June 26 and July 10 hearings set by the upper chamber. Senate President Chiz Escudero signed the letter and an arrest order was released.
However, the authorities were not able to locate Guo in all her registered addresses including her farm and her garments factories. Her account, Nancy Gamo, was the only one of the family members and staff of Guo with an arrest order who was arrested.
The lawyer of Guo, Attorney Stephen David, previously expressed his hope that the suspended Mayor will surrender to the Senate. She may be tagged as “fugitive” if she fails to appear in the next hearing set by the Senate on July 29.
Recently, Mayor Alice Guo released a statement where she expressed that her health and her peace of mind are her priorities now. According to her, she was severely exhausted from what happened in the previous hearings.
The suspended Mayor said that she is ready to face the allegations against her if there is an evidence but “at a proper forum”. In her statement, she also mentioned the lawmakers and stressed that there are other critical issues that they need to focus on like poverty, national security, and food shortage.
Mayor Alice Guo stressed that the lawmakers are focusing on her and raised a question if she is the biggest problem in the Philippines. Sen. Risa Hontiveros who was on a special mention in her statement was quick to react to the statement of the suspended Mayor.
Sen. Hontiveros told Mayor Guo that she has nothing to worry about as they are not fixated on her rather allergic to liars. Based on a report on GMA News, she also reacted to the social media activities of the suspended Mayor.
“Huwag kayong mag-alala, hindi kami fixated sa’yo. Allergic lang kami sa mga sinungaling,” the Senator said.
Sen. Risa Hontiveros said that Mayor Alice Guo has more Facebook posts compared to her attendance in the Senate hearings. Based on the report, she also stressed that her frequent updates on social media is not equivalent to her attendance in the hearings.
Furthermore, the Senator also asked how the Mayor will have a peace of mind if she will always escape from questions. She reminded the Mayor that she is being called by the Senate because she is the Mayor of the town where illegal POGO operations were raided.
“Nagsinungaling ka tungkol sa koneksyon mo sa POGO, nagsinungaling ka tungkol sa pagkatao mo, at kada log-in mo sa Facebook,” Hontiveros said.
