3 Children Chased by Undressed Man & Holds Own Mother Hostage
An undressed man in Barangay Cembo, Taguig City, chased his three children and held his own mother hostage.
CCTV footage captured the children running barefoot down Banaba Street around 1 a.m. on Wednesday early morning (July 17, 2024). They were terrified as their father, reportedly sleepless for a day and holding a knife, threatened to kill one of them. The children sought help at the Barangay Cembo office.
According to Lorna Venancio, a Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) officer, the eldest child explained that their father had been awake for a day and was acting aggressively, brandishing a knife and making threats.
The children stayed at the VAWC office while waiting for their mother to arrive. When their mother came, they decided to have the father arrested. Venancio noted that the family had approached the barangay before, but the mother hesitated to proceed with charges to avoid breaking up the family.
Around 9 a.m., the barangay received a call that the suspect had taken his own mother hostage. Responding quickly, the authorities found him holding a knife to his mother’s throat.
Fortunately, one of the suspect’s siblings managed to convince him to release their mother. Barangay councilor Edgar Ordoño mentioned that the suspect appeared erratic and smelled of gasoline, prompting the police to prepare fire and rescue teams.
After negotiations with barangay officials, police, and his sibling, the suspect eventually released his mother and surrendered to authorities. He repeatedly expressed his desire to reunite his family, indicating the stress he was under.
The suspect’s relatives plan to file charges against him. Currently, he is in the custody of the Taguig City Police and has not made any public statements. The incident emphasizes the importance of addressing mental health issues and ensuring the safety of vulnerable family members.
