Couple Tries To Escape Police Checkpoint for Not Wearing Helmets
COUPLE – A man died with his girlfriend in a motorcycle accident after they tried to escape police as they have no helmets.
Countless Filipinos across ages in the Philippines own a motorcycle. It is like a toy for the big boys. In most cases, they also use motorcycles in their everyday transportation to work or school. For the safety of the riders, it is under the law that a rider must wear a helmet whenever they are on a motorcyle in the road.
In the case of those who will be caught not wearing a helmet, there are penalties and the fees are based on the LTO violation committed. It is risky on the part of anyone who rides in a motorcycle to travel without safety protective gears most especially a helmet.
To ensure the implementation of the rules for the safety of everyone, in the Philippines, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the other traffic-managing authorities usually hold a check point. Recently, in Caloocan City, an acccident happened.
Based on a report on GMA Balimtambayan, a couple and their friend were riding a motorcycle without helmets when they encoutered a checkpoint early in the morning. They reportedly saw the checkpoint ahead and decided to make a U-turn to escape it.
The couple and their friend on a motorcycle sped up to evade the checkpoint but the police saw them and chased them. When they reached the Dagat-dagatan Avenue, the motorcycle continued although the traffic light was on red.
Unfortunately, based on the report, it was in time for a passing truck on a green light when the motorcycle crossed the road on red. They figured into an accident that led to the death of the couple.
Reportedly, barangay kagawad Rocky Badiana was shocked when he found out that the woman involved in the motorcycle accident is his niece. He did not recognize her at first. Currently, the truck driver is detained while the investigation is ongoing.
