The second State of the Nation Address of Pres. Marcos will be delivered at the Batasang Pambansa. The upcoming SONA is expected to gather more people compared to the first SONA of the Chief Executive.

However, it seems like Vice President Sara Duterte is set to exclude herself from those who will be attending the SONA of Pres. Marcos. She recently issued a statement regarding the upcoming huge political event.

According to the Vice President, she is appointing herself as the “designated survivor”. Based on the report, this term is used in the United States to refer to a person who is assigned to succeed the presidency and kept away amid the gathering of the leaders of the nation.

VP Sara Duterte did not cite the reason behind her decision to not attend the second SONA of Pres. Bongbong Marcos. A few weeks ago, Vice Pres. Duterte also resigned from being the secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd).

Duterte also left the cabinet of Marcos and resigned as the vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC). The moves of the Vice President sparked curiosity among the Filipinos.

According to VP Sara Duterte, her resignation from being the DepEd Secretary is not a sign of weakness but of her true concern to the teachers and the Filipino youth. Amid the call for her to run for president, the Vice President previously announced that her brother, Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte, will run for president in 2028.
