BATANG QUIAPO – Mercedes Cabral received the title “Pambansang Jumper” because of her role and this is what she said about it.
For an actor, the response of the audience to their portrayal is the most important and to be hated as “Lena” in FPJ’s Batang Quiapo is a compliment to actress Mercedes Cabral. She is portraying the role of Lena, the mistress of Rigor, a character played by John Estrada.
Lena is being hated by a lot for being an entitled mistress and her encounter with Marites, the role played by Cherry Pie Picache, is always much-awaited by the audience.
This series is directed by the lead star Coco Martin and according to Cabral, she was the one who reached out to Coco to give her a role. She just asked for a small role but was given one that turned out to be her role that lasted the longest on TV so far.
She is grateful to the actor-director for giving her this opportunity to become a part of the ABS-CBN’s hit primetime series.
In an interview with Julius Babao, a lot of artists wanted the role but she’s lucky enough to be the chosen one. Her portrayal of Lena made her more known to the public that every time she goes out, people would call her Lena. This accordingly just proves that a lot of people are watching the series.
Moreover, because of her BQ role, she is now the “most-hated woman on primetime” but she is enjoying it. The response of the audience just showed that she is effective and she hopes that her career in the series will last longer.
“Kailangan ‘yung character ni Lena sa story, siya ‘yung gumagawa ng conflict sa story. So nae-enjoy ko siya actually. Nae-enjoy ko maging kontrabida,” she said based on the interview.
