Male Student Punches Professor on Stage During Graduation Day
GRADUATION MISHAP – A male student suddenly attacked a professor on graduation day at Fudan University in Shanghai.
Graduation day is usually one of the most important days for students, a time to celebrate their academic success and hard work. However, for one student in China, it was a day marked by anger and violence.
On June 20, 2024, over 10,000 students from Fudan University gathered at Zhengda Stadium in Shanghai, China, for their graduation ceremony. The event started smoothly, but things took an unexpected twist during the commencement rite.
As the graduates were receiving their degrees, a student identified as Hsia unexpectedly punched a professor in the face. The force of the punch knocked off the professor’s cap and broke his glasses.
The student quickly left the stage as if nothing had happened, leaving the audience and other graduates in shock. The injured professor was immediately taken to the hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.
The incident was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media. The video garnered various reactions from the online community.
According to reports, the Taiwanese student acted out of deep-seated anger. He had been shortlisted for a master’s degree program at Peking University Health Science Center in April but was not accepted because he was still undergoing an ideological and moral assessment by the university.
The Student Affairs Office and the Law School staff at Fudan University are currently investigating the incident. So far, there has been no official statement from the involved student.

Some alumni and sources from Taiwan suggested that the student might have mistaken the professor for the dean of the university, who was his intended target. The motive behind this violent act seems to stem from his frustration and disappointment with the university’s decision regarding his application.
