DOJ Confirms Arnie Teves Removed from House Arrest
ARNIE TEVES – The Department of Justice (DOJ) assured that the former Negros Oriental Congressman is under close monitoring after revealing he is no longer under House Arrest in Timor-Leste.
The family and supporters of the late former Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo who died last March 2023 remain to be in a call for justice for the politician’s untimely passing as well as the death of several individuals.
Last March 2023, unidentified men stormed in the residence of the Degamo family in Pamplona. The then-Governor was shot and several individuals who happened to be at the house of the politician were left injured and dead by the incident.
The then-Governor was rushed to the hospital but he did not make it. His wife, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, called out to the national government for help to give justice to the death of her husband and several individuals.
After a series of investigations, then Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnie Teves was tagged as one of the suspects in the death of Gov. Degamo. Upon the suspicion that he might have a hand in the incident, Teves was already in abroad.
Since 2023, Teves has yet to return to the Philippines. Citing his safety, he turned down the calls from the government and even his family for him to come home and face the accusations.
Arnie Teves denied the allegations through videos posted on social media. The Philippine authorities remain to be in the pursuit to bring him home for the legal proceedings on the cases filed against him.
Teves is currently in Timor-Leste where he was recently released and re-arrested. Several former and current officials of the Philippine government testified against and by him.
The Timor-Leste Court of Appeals previously ordered Teves to be under a House Arrest citing that he is a flight risk. Bases on a recent report on ABS-CBN News, the Department of Justice recently confirmed that the former Negros Oriental Congressman is no longer under House Arrest in Timor-Leste.
Meanwhile, based on the report, the DOJ assured that Arnie Teves is under close monitoring while he is no longer under House Arrest. According to DOJ spokesman Attorney Mico Clavano, there are authorities and law enforcement agencies monitoring him 24 hours a day “because of the flight risk that he is”.
Clavano stressed that the Philippine authorities is at the tail end to bring Arnie Teves back home to the country to face the charges filed against him. Based on the report, the DOJ spokesman explained that Teves remains under court processes in Timor-Leste and he is required to make a Court appearance everytime he is called to do so.
“He will be prevented from leaving. He is still under the court processes, meaning he needs to appear in court everytime he is called to do so, kapag may hearing,” Clavano said.
