TEACHER RUBILYN – The name of Mayor Alice Guo’s teacher when she was young is trending online after VP Sara Duterte resigned. On Wednesday, the VP announced her resignation as secretary of the Department of Education and vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC). People online then immediately joked about having Guo’s teacher as a replacement.

SARA DUTERTE – PH’s vice president announced her resignation as Education secretary effective July 19, 2024.
Presidential Communications Office Secretary Cheloy Garafil shared on Wednesday, June 19, that Vice President Sara Duterte has resigned from her post as Department of Education (DepEd) secretary. As per the PCO, the reason behind the resignation was not disclosed but such desire has been granted by President Bongbong Marcos.
On the same day, she also resigned as vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict. She will continue her service as the country’s vice president and the Palace has extended their gratitude to her for her service.
The reason may not be provided but such a decision to step down is never a sign of weakness. She said, “Mga kababayan, ang aking pagbibitiw ay hindi lulan ng kahinaan kundi dala ng tunay na malasakit para sa ating mga guro at kabataang Pilipino.”
To recall, Duterte was appointed as education secretary by the president upon their assumption to office last June 2022.
In Duterte’s speech, she noted that she had already given her 30-day notice “to ensure the proper and orderly transition for the benefit of the next secretary”. She is thankful to the support of all teachers, non-teaching personnel, local government units, and private stakeholders when she pushed for changes and reforms in this particular sector.
Despite her resignation, she vowed to still advocate for the rights and welfare of the teachers and learners of the Philippines.
Under Duterte’s leadership in the education sector, she was able to create a strategy that will address the problems – the MATATAG Agenda.

Along with the resignation, the topic Teacher Rubilyn trended online. People online joked about Teacher Rubilyn as the possible replacement of the vice president as the education secretary. As much as we all know, Teacher Rubilyn is Alice Guo’s teacher when she was homeschooled.
The controversial Bamban Mayor claimed that she was homeschooled when she was young in their farm and could remember anything about her education apart from saying that Teacher Rubilyn was her teacher.
