Single Dad’s Daughter Graduates as Magna Cum Laude in U.P. – Diliman
DAUGHTER – The eldest child of Pedring Catubig, a single dad who works as a driver in 4 companies, graduates as magna cum laude in UP Diliman.
There are a lot of parents who are both father and mother to their children. Some of them are single parents because of separation while some others lost their partners due to death. Regardless of the reason, it undeniably leaves the person with a huge amount of responsibilities.
One of the single parents is Pedrosino “Pedring” Catubig, a 57-year-old man who is working as a driver in four (4) companies to provide for his two (2) daughters, Nona and Bea. The eldest is about to finish college while the younger one, Bea, is in college now.
The wife of Pedring died due to brain aneurysm. Based on an article on Pep, Nona was in Grade 10 while Bea was in Grade 7 when their mother died. Her death left Pedring the responsibility to be a father and mother to their daughters.
Pedring and his late wife, Mayet, met in Makati in 1997. He was a janitor while he was a researcher. They officially tied the knot in 1998 and welcomed their eldest daughter, Nona, in 2000. After three (3) years, in 2003, Mayet gave birth to Bea.
According to Pedring, he and Mayet were really happy in their life as they are able to send their daughters in good schools and provide for them. However, in 2016, she died of brain aneurysm.
The death of Mayet left Pedring a huge amount of responsibility. It also scarred their daughters and Bea even went into depression due to the sadness following the passing of her mother. The single dad had her youngest daughter be check by psychiatrist.
Also, based on the article, Pedring worked as a driver in four (4) companies — Lalamove, Grab, Mr. Speedy, and Joyride, so he can provide for all the needs of her daughters — even their wants so they won’t feel sad.
“Para maiwasan na malungkot sila, binibigay ko lahat ng gusto… Para pag nagsabi sa akin, may maibibigay ako,” the single dad said.
Based on the article, Pedring allots 15 to 18 hours of his day working as a driver and on his vacant time, he would do the household chores. In exchange of the hardwork of the single dad, his daughters do their best in their studies.
Nona is graduating as Magna cum laude in the University of the Philippines (U.P.) – Diliman. She took Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Bea is currently a college student taking Bachelor of Forensic Science at De La Salle University — Dasmariñas.
