Viral Grandma To Pursue Journalism Degree After Passing Entrance Exams

The viral grandma known as Lola Lolita, is set to go on a new educational journey. The story went viral and captured the hearts of many as she prepares to enter college and pursue a degree in journalism.
Recently, Lola Lolita took her entrance exam at the University of Rizal System Angono Campus and ranked among the top five exam takers. Her inspiration to pursue further education stems from a deeply personal place.
Three years ago, Lola Lolita lost her only child. The incident motivated her to finish high school, where she became schoolmates with her grandchildren.
“Minsan kung ‘di ko alam, nagpapaturo ako sa kanila. Minsan nagtatanong sila sa akin lalo na pagdating sa research ‘yung Grade 11 namin,” she shared.
Escal’s completed elementary school five decades ago but had to stop studying after a traumatic experience in her province, Agusan del Norte, where she was assaulted by her employer.
“Natakot na ako eh, akala ko ‘di na ako maka-recover. Nagtrabaho na lang ako,” she recounted. Despite the fear and uncertainty, she eventually found the courage to return to her studies.
Lola Lolita faces skepticisms and was told, “Uy, may edad ka na, saan mo pa gagamitin ‘yan? Wala ka na talagang ano dyan, ganun ka na lang.”

However, she remained undeterred. “Ang tao kasi buhay pa eh, may future pa, ‘pag wala nang future ‘pag patay na, hangga’t buhay, tuloy,” she explained. The senior citizen shows that it is never too late to chase one’s aspirations and that education can be a lifelong endeavor.
