HEARTWARMING STORY – A senior citizen sells his lone hammer to a fast-food customer to feed his beloved daughter.
Recently, Darrel Mendoza Doblado, a Facebook user, shared photos of an elderly man who sold his only hammer to a kind-hearted customer to buy food for his daughter. The post garnered various reactions from the netizens.
While waiting for his order at Jollibee, Darrel was approached by an elderly man holding a hammer. The man asked Darrel, “Bilhan mo naman pagkain tong anak ko,” pointing to his daughter who was looking longingly through the restaurant’s glass window.
Initially, Doblado did not respond and simply watched as the man and his daughter moved to another seat. After receiving his order, Darrel decided to order food for them as well. He approached them and said, “Wait lang Tay, inorderan ko pa kayo.”
A few minutes later, Darrel handed the food to the elderly man and his daughter, saying, “Tay, kain na po kayo.” The elderly man offered Darrel his hammer, hoping to sell it to have some money for the next day.
Though the kind-hearted customer had no need for a hammer, he decided to buy it after asking how much it cost, understanding that the money would help the man and his daughter.
Darrel shared that after talking to the elderly man about where he was from, he told the little girl to eat her food. Darrel and his nephew then left, but the image of the girl’s smile when she received the Jollibee meal stayed with him.
The generous customer facing his own financial struggles, Darrel felt compelled to help. He mentioned how he often stresses about budgeting and providing for his needs. Yet, when faced with someone in a challenging situation, he felt the need to share what he had.
Darrel’s act of kindness was not about expecting anything in return but about finding joy in helping others despite his own problems. He emphasized that the small amount he gave meant a lot to the elderly man and his daughter.
