Barangay Kagawad Arrested Over Shooting Spree in Malabon

SHOOTING SPREE – A barangay kagawad in Barangay Panghulo, Malabon was arrested for brandishing a gun and shooting spree.

On Tuesday early morning (June 11, 2024), a barangay official in Malabon, Kagawad Jaime Domingo, was arrested for brandishing a gun and firing it recklessly outside his home in Barangay Panghulo.

According to Police Colonel Jay Baybayan, the chief of Malabon Police, the altercation began when Domingo found a group of men drinking in the street outside his house. The men had left tables and chairs blocking the road.

The former policeman, now an incumbent barangay kagawad, returned home and saw the mess, which had not been cleaned up.

Domingo confronted the group, swearing and demanding that they move the furniture. When one man failed to comply quickly enough, the suspect grabbed him by the collar, drew his gun, and fired several shots into the ground near the man.

An eyewitness account from the mother of the man threatened by Domingo added further details.

“Pagbaba niya ng sasakyan niya may hawak na siyang baril. Yung mga kabataang nakapwesto dito, nagpasukan sa bahay habang ‘yung iba nagpulasan sila. Yung anak ko, sorry, naiwan dito sa gilid. So yun na siya… siya na nilapitan at hinatak siya at the same time binaril na ‘yung bandang paanan,” she said.

The culprit expressed her fear, believing her son might be killed as Domingo continued to fire shots and yelled threats. She recounted Domingo saying, “Gusto mo patayin ko sa harapan mo? Kriminal ako. Kaya kong pumatay.”

The police were alerted to the situation via the emergency hotline 911. They arrived at the scene, approached Domingo’s house, and arrested him. A .45 caliber gun was recovered, along with six spent shells and two deformed fired bullets.

Although Domingo had the necessary permits for his firearm, the police are seeking to revoke these due to his reckless behavior. He underwent a paraffin test to check for gunpowder residue, and his firearm was subjected to a ballistics examination.

Domingo has been charged with grave threat and alarm and scandal and is currently detained at the Malabon City Police Station.
