PAGASA Heat Index Forecast: 17 Areas In Dangerous Levels On June 9

Here’s the PAGASA heat index forecast for June 9, Sunday.

PAGASA HEAT INDEX FORECAST – These are the 17 areas in the Philippines that will likely have dangerously extreme heat on June 9.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) shared their forecasted heat index levels for Sunday, June 9. As per their update, 17 areas across the country are registered to have “dangerous” peak heat indices of or above 42ºC (degrees Celsius).

Heat index is the “measure of the contribution that high humidity makes with abnormally high temperatures in reducing the body’s ability to cool itself.”

In the danger category, the temperature ranges from 42ºC to 51ºC. This means that the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke is increased during prolonged exposure to heat. 52°C and above is under the extreme danger level.

To recall, last April, six people died of extreme heat in Cotabato Village and this is due to the increasing temperature in the country. All these death cases are due to heat stroke.

Based on the 5 PM bulletin of PAGASA on Saturday, June 8, the following areas are to suffer dangerous heat index levels this Sunday, June 9:

  • Maasin, Southern Leyte

  • Aparri, Cagayan
  • Tuguegarao City, Cagayan
  • Masbate City, Masbate

43°C

  • NAIA, Pasay City
  • Dagupan City, Pangasinan
  • ISU Echague, Isabela
  • Casiguran, Aurora
  • Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte

42°C

  • Bacnotan, La Union
  • CLSU Muñoz, Nueva Ecija
  • Alabat, Quezon
  • Juban, Sorsogon
  • Catbalogan, Samar
  • Davao City, Davao del Sur
  • Butuan City, Agusan del Norte

The lowest heat index in Baguio is expected at 26°C. Based on the list, Virac in Catuandes was listed and forecasted to have the highest temperature at its peak which is at 46°C.
