PAGASA HEAT INDEX FORECAST – These are the 17 areas in the Philippines that will likely have dangerously extreme heat on June 9.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) shared their forecasted heat index levels for Sunday, June 9. As per their update, 17 areas across the country are registered to have “dangerous” peak heat indices of or above 42ºC (degrees Celsius).
Heat index is the “measure of the contribution that high humidity makes with abnormally high temperatures in reducing the body’s ability to cool itself.”
In the danger category, the temperature ranges from 42ºC to 51ºC. This means that the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke is increased during prolonged exposure to heat. 52°C and above is under the extreme danger level.
To recall, last April, six people died of extreme heat in Cotabato Village and this is due to the increasing temperature in the country. All these death cases are due to heat stroke.
