The volcano erupted at 6:15 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2024 and the Alert Level 1 was maintained.

As much as we all know, volcanic ash is composed of rock, mineral, and glass particles from a volcano during an eruption. At times like this, what should you do before, during, and after an ashfall?

BEFORE

  • Watch for updates and reports from radio, TV, and official social media pages and websites of agencies and authorities about the eruption that can cause ashfall.
  • Prepare an emergency supply kit that contains a first aid kit, canned goods, flashlight with extra batteries, candle, lighter, whistle, face mask, alcohol, significant documents, clothes, water, toiletries, money, and among others.
  • Prepare face masks and goggles for protection.
  • Know the location of the evacuation area.
  • Prepare food and water for your animals.

DURING

  • Keep updated over updates about the eruption.
  • Stay calm and wear protective gears such as face mask or wet cloth to cover nose and mouth and goggles for the eyes. Avoid using contact lens.
  • Close the doors and windows.
  • Put wet cloth and towel in doors and windows to prevent ash from coming in.
  • Secure the animals you own.
  • Make sure to clean your fruits and vegetables before eating them.

AFTER

  • Sweep the ash on the roof to prevent it from collapsing.
  • Clean your house and car with a wet cloth before cleaning it again with soap and warm water.
  • Make sure to dispose the ash away from the waterway to avoid blockage.
  • Boil the water before drinking.
  • Make sure to cover your mouth, eyes, and nose while cleaning.
