Showtime searcher Maria Christine broke her silence on the “Nakaw na Halik” issue that solicited countless opinions online.
A recent episode of Expecially For you, a segment of the noontime variety show It’s Showtime, went viral online. Countless netizens bashed Axel Cruz, one of the searchees during the episode when Showtime searcher Maria Christine appeared on the show with her ex-boyfriend, Derrick.
During the episode of the show, Maria Christine chose one of the searchees to be her date — it was not Axel Cruz. Thus, Axel was given the chance to give her a parting message.
When he approached her, he came with a high-five and moved his face closer to her face. It appeared like he was about to kiss her so Vice Ganda who was surprised intervened. He reminded Axel not to do it as it is “bad” and to ask for permission. The Showtime host also reminded him that he might be charged for what he is trying to do.
The said episode earned Axel Cruz hate messages and negative criticisms online. Clips of the said episode also went viral on social media platforms.
Amid the bashing, Showtime searchee Axel Cruz issued a statement clarifying his side on the “nakaw na halik” issue. According to the searchee, he was supposed to do the “BroCode” — after a handshake, he was supposed to move his arms closer to hers but she was surprised.
Axel clarified that he did not intend to steal a kiss from Maria Christine. In his statement, he apologized to her if she was shocked. He also apologized to the public for how the situation appeared based on the angle taken by the camera.
The Showtime searchee ended his post expressing his gratitude to the noontime variety show for the opportunity to be a part of the show. He also asked the people to stop bashing Vice Ganda.

However, the Showtime searcher was seated so he had to lean to get closer to her. She claried that he did not kiss her. She felt like he just wanted to comfort her. Meanwhile, in the case of Vice, she expressed her appreciation on his concern.
