Deniece Cornejo Spends Another Birthday Inside Jail
DENIECE CORNEJO – The model is celebrating her birthday in jail today for the 2nd time around and his father spoke on his wish.
One of the most controversial cases in the Philippines that gained national attention was the legal battle between Vhong Navarro and Deniece Cornejo. The actor and the model exchanged contradicting accusations over the 2014 incident in her condominium unit in Forbeswood.
The legal battle between Vhong and Deniece continued for several years. It earned different opinions from the public. There are those who sided with the Showtime host in his claim that he did not do anything against her while there are also those who supported her in her accusations.
In September 2022, Vhong Navarro was detained after an arrest warrant against him was issued by the court. The Showtime host voluntarily surrendered to the authorities of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
After around three (3) months of detention, the Court allowed Vhong Navarro to post bail. The Showtime host was released from jail. In February 2023, the Supreme Court Third Division dismissed the charges against the Showtime host due to a lack of probable cause.
A year after the case against Vhong was dismissed, the Taguig Regional Trial Court convicted Deniece Cornejo, businessman Cedric Lee, and two (2) others for the charges filed by the actor-TV host. They were found guilty and sentenced with reclusion perpetua that requires 30 to 40 years of imprisonment.
Today, June 1, 2024, Deniece Cornejo is spending her birthday inside jail for the second time around. The first time that she spent her birthday inside jail was on June 1, 2023 when she was detained at the Philippine National Police Headquarters in Camp Crame in Quezon City.
Based on an article on Pep, in an exclusive interview with the Cabinet Files, Dennis Cornejo, the father of Deniece, expressed that his wish for his daughter was for her to hold on to her faith in God.
“Always think that time will come that justice will be fair. Hindi yung ganitong nangyari sa kanya,” Dennis said.
The father of Deniece Cornejo who is currently based in the United States said that everything that he can see about what people say are against his daughter. Based on the article, he expressed his hope for a “balanced” judgement from the people.
“Pero ganoon talaga. You have to face it pero dumating din ang time. I am not losing hope, never! And I will never, ever lose my faith. Sa nangyaring yan, lalong tumibay ang aking paninindigan at panalangin sa Panginoon kasi talagang tine-test ka Niya,” he said.
The father of the model is staying in U.S. and has yet to see his daughter since she was detained at the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City.
