PAGASA Says Typhoon Aghon to Affect PH Weather Condition

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that Typhoon Aghon weakens as it moves away from the country.

On Tuesday (May 28, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Typhoon Aghon will continue to affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA weather specialist Rhea Torres lifted tropical cyclone wind signals as Typhoon Aghon weakened as it continued to move away from Luzon. The weather disturbance was last spotted 315 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

“Wala na po tayong nakataas na tropical cyclone wind signal sa anumang bahagi ng ating bansa,” Torres said.

Aghon has maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 160 kph. It is unlikely to bring heavy rains over parts of the country within the next three days.

“‘Yung mga makakapal na kaulapan na nagdadala ng malalakas na pagulan ay mostly off-shore or sa karagatan na lang, bibihira na po o mababa na ang epekto nitong mga kaulapan [ni Aghon] sa anumang bahagi ng bansa,” she added.

The typhoon is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday afternoon or evening (May 29, 2024).

“Aghon will likely maintain its strength until tomorrow before entering a period of weakening on Wednesday as it begins to interact with the mid-latitude environment and undergo post-tropical transition,” PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over Cagayan (eastern coast), Isabela, northern Aurora and the northern coastal waters of Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes will be moderate to rough.

As Aghon weakens, the southwesterly wind flow will bring rain over parts of the country.

However, the weather agency warned the public about possible flooding and rain-induced landslides in areas affected by rains in the past few days.
