Who is Chelsea Manalo? Meet the winner of Miss Universe Philippines 2024, the first ever black Filipino-American who will represent the country.
The pageant just ended and a new queen has been crowned. The winner is neither a top contender nor a fan favorite but her performance throughout the competition including her performance during the Q & A portion allowed her to get the highly-coveted crown.
Miss Universe Philippines 2024 winner is Chelsea Manalo and she is the first black Filipino-American who will represent the country at the pageant in Mexico.
The full transcript of MUPH Top 5 Q&A has been released and the winner was asked: You are beautiful and confident, how would you use these qualities to empower others?
Her winning answer was:
“As a woman of color, I have always faced challenges in my life. I was told that beauty has (a) high standard actually. But for me I have listened to always believe in my mother to always believe in yourself, uphold the values that you have in yourself. Because of these, I am already influencing a lot the world who are facing me right now. As a transformational woman, I have here 52 other delegates with me who have made to become the woman that I am. Thank you.”
Some details about the new queen:
- Manalo was born on October 14, 1999 to a Filipina mother and a Black-American father. Her parents separated and was raised by her mother and stepfather inMeycauayan City, Bulacan.
- She started her modeling career at 14 and she graced the pages of several print magazines, fashion designers, and commercial companies such as MEGA, Preview, Job Dacon, and Mark Bumgarner. Modeling is not her dream. She, instead, wanted to become a car racer but found her knack in modelling over the years and eventually, she learned to love the profession that loved her.
- She advocates body positivity as she herself suffered from insecurities brought about by her dark skin and hair type.
- Her first national pageant was Miss World Philippines competition in 2017 and she finished as part of the Top 15.
- It is also worth noting that she is a loving fur parent to her shih tzu, basset hound, pomchi pups, and love birds.
She is vying to earn the fifth title for the country. The country already earned the title four times through Gloria Diaz in 1969, Margie Moran in 1973, Pia Wurtzbach in 2015, and Catriona Gray in 2018.
