Hostel Owner Upset After Transgender Woman Uses Women’s Restroom

Hostel Owner Elicits Reactions for Criticizing Transgender Woman Who Used Women’s Restroom

A hostel owner gets upset after a transgender woman reportedly used the women’s restroom where she was staying.

Transgender discrimination refers to unfair treatment or prejudice against individuals who identify as transgender or whose gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth.

It not only violates individuals’ human rights but also contributes to higher rates of mental health issues, substance abuse, homelessness, and suicide among transgender populations.

Efforts to fight transgender discrimination include enacting anti-discrimination laws and policies, providing education and training on transgender issues, promoting cultural acceptance and understanding, and building supportive and inclusive environments for transgender individuals.

Recently, a video capturing a heated exchange between a transgender woman and the owner of the hostel where she was staying has gone viral, sparking discussions about discrimination in Legazpi City.

The video shows the confrontation between Jules Balais, a transgender woman, and the hostel owner. Later, the owner’s spouse intervened and stopped Balais from recording.

The incident has prompted the Albay provincial government to strengthen the enforcement of its ordinance against discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression (SOGIE).

According to the anti-SOGIE discrimination ordinance passed in 2021, it is considered discrimination to prohibit or limit the use of public facilities, such as bathrooms, based on a person’s SOGIE.

Albay Governor Grex Lagman, the author of the anti-SOGIE discrimination ordinance, stated that they would collaborate with the police to ensure stricter enforcement.

  1. Tama naman yung hostel owner.. being a tansgender doesnt give them the right to use womens cr. Kahit ako, being a girl naiilang pa rin ako tlga. Kaya nga dpat gawing mandatory sa mga establishments na merong cr for trans.

  2. From whta I heard, there were female guest who complained to the owner when this trans individual used the female comfort room. Is this how society is now? We are willing to neglect REAL women to cater the tantrums of a mentally unstable biological male?
Sure the best thing to do is to put a General comfort room for all genders, but that would just be an additional expenses to already established facilities. Remember that they are still a MINORITY in the General Society. If they want respect and be accepted into the General Society, they should abide by the rules and norms. This issue is just treated as a MAJOR one because of this societies amplified expression and pressence in social media. In the end the real victims here are Women, who fought well for decades and even ceturies to enjoy the privileges that are now available to them.
