On Saturday (May 4, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The easterlies will affect the country’s weather conditions.

The Easterlies will bring cloudy weather conditions with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Davao Region and Sarangani. Possible flash floods or landslides are expected in these areas due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Easterlies/Localized Thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and/or thunderstorms over Visayas, Palawan, including Kalayaan Islands, and Occidental Mindoro.

“Patuloy pa rin ang epekto ng easterlies sa malaking bahagi ng ating bunso at makikita natin sa ating mga satellite images ang makakapal na kaulapan sa southeastern portion ng Mindanao,” Villamil said.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience similar weather conditions. Flash floods or landslides are possible during severe thunderstorms.

“Asahan natin na magpapatuloy ang mainit at maalinsangang panahon maliban na lamang sa tsansa ng isolated rainshowers o localized thunderstorms,” he added.

A heat index of 42 degrees Celsius is expected over Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and Science Garden in Quezon City will have 41 degrees Celsius. Metro Manila will be placed between Extreme Caution and Danger Level.

The weather agency has advised the public to take precautionary measures against heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and activities that may result in heat stroke.

PAGASA advised the Filipino people to limit outdoor activities, wear heat-protective gear, reschedule heavy-duty activities when the weather is cooler, drink plenty of water, and avoid drinking coffee, tea, soda, or liquor.

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over Northern Luzon and the remaining parts of the country will be slightly to moderate, according to PAGASA.
