Claudine Barretto Remembers Some Details When Rico Yan Passed Away
CLAUDINE BARRETTO – Optimum Star Claudine Barretto shared some details surrounding Rico Yan’s passing.
Rico Yan’s passing was indeed a tragic event that deeply affected his fans and the Filipino entertainment industry. His sudden death at such a young age, while on vacation, came as a shock to many. It’s sad that his last movie continued to run in cinemas, serving as a reminder of his talent and the joy he brought to audiences.
“Got 2 Believe” was not only a commercial success but also a beloved film among fans of Filipino romantic-comedies. Its continued screening after Rico’s passing speaks to the impact he had on Filipino cinema and the enduring appeal of his work.
Rico Yan’s untimely death left a void in the hearts of many, but his legacy lives on through his films and the memories he created during his time in the industry. Claudine Barretto became emotional when recalling some events surrounding the passing of actor Rico Yan.
In an interview with Ogie Diaz, Claudine revisited the controversial death of her former on-screen partner and boyfriend. Among these was their breakup, which occurred several months before Rico was found lifeless at a resort in Palawan.
“Ang nangyari was November 2001, nasa Ad Congress siya. ‘Pag uwi niya end of November, may nalaman ako and naghiwalay kami. Pero we we’re staying under the same roof.”
“Ang usapan is, January, move out. He was asking pa na ayaw niya umalis,” Claudine added.
Claudine Baretto also admitted that she had shortcomings in their relationship, but she couldn’t accept what she learned about her former boyfriend. She said, “Alam mo ang tagal kong prinotektahan ang pangalan ni Rico. Pareho kaming may mali. Hindi ko lang talaga matanggap ‘yung time na ‘yun kung ano man ‘yuung nangyari during Ad congress.”
One of the things clarified by Claudine was the reported allegation that she was supposedly being hurt by Rico. “Umabot ng March 5 ‘yung away namin pero hindi totoo na sinaktan ako ni Rico o naging violent siya. ‘Yun ang gusto kong iklaro. Never. Nagsigawan kami pero hindi umabot sa nananakit,” she said.
She recalled allegedly being one of the last persons Rico called the night before he departed.
“’Yun yung pinaka pinagsisisihan ko. The night na March 29 ng madaling araw tumatawag siya… Last call niya was sa sister niya at sa akin”
“Alam mo ngayon naiisip ko, baka yun ang pinakamalaking karma ko…”
“Hindi alam ng tao, ako rin. Sinisisi ko rin ang sarili ko.”
