Motorcycle Taxi Rider Criticized for Cancelling Booking Over Lack of Tip
A motorcycle taxi rider faces criticism after canceling a booking due to the commuter’s purported failure to provide a tip.
Recently, a member of the Facebook page “MOVE IT Riders and Passengers GROUP” shared his conversation with a Move It rider who canceled their booking allegedly because no tip was given.
The post quickly went viral and elicited reactions from netizens discussing the issue of tipping practices in ride-hailing services.
According to the complainant, the rider opted to cancel the booking after the commuter failed to offer a tip. This action was criticized for inconveniencing the passenger, particularly due to the 30-minute wait period for Move It to release the hold on the commuter’s GCash account.
The post further questioned why riders felt entitled to receive tips, pointing out Move It’s standard fares and suggesting that riders should not dictate whether passengers add tips or not.
The passenger urges others who have experienced similar situations to report the booking ID and provide screenshots of their conversations to prevent such behavior from riders in the future.
It also emphasizes the auto-accept feature used by some riders, which automatically accepts bookings but can lead to cancellations if the rider decides the trip is not favorable.
This practice was criticized for disadvantaging passengers with limited funds and time, as they may face delays in securing a ride due to the extended hold periods on payment platforms.
