Here’s what Darryl Yap said about Vice Ganda’s monologue
Director-writer Darryl Yap reacted to the allegation that Unkabogable Vice Ganda copied his spoken word poetry piece.
To recall, Vice did a monologue on It’s Showtime on April 6, the first airing date of the Kapamilya noontime show on the GMA network. His delivery was full of emotion as he talked about not giving up on his dreams and highlighted the determination he had to pursue his goals.
This received applause from the viewers but songwriter/content creator Lolito Go noticed that Vice’s piece somehow has a resemblance to his favorite piece that Darryl shared back in 2020.
Lolito raised some points that could show the similarities like the background music and the thought with just a little scrambling of words.
In a recent interview, based on the article in Abante, Direk Darryl Yap was about the “nagopya” issue. The director-write said that he is sure Vice Ganda has a writer but he can’t totally say it was copied.
“I’m sure may writer si Vice, hindi naman siya ‘yon mismo. Sana naging maingat ‘yung writer niya. Hindi ko naman sinasabing kopya talaga, pero ‘yung background music kasi, pati ibang mga sinabi, hawig kasi,” Direk Darryl said.
He also shared that there were people who message him about this issue and there were posts on TikTok also. The director-writer watched the video of the It’s Showtime host because of the messages he received.
On the other hand, Direk Darryl pointed out that he does not possess the right to monopolize the art of spoken word poetry. However, he pointed out that his piece was released years ago.
“Pero ako naman, wala naman akong monopoly sa spoken word. Pero ‘yung sa akin nga, 2020 pa,” the director-writer said.
