Bongbong Marcos Appoints Rommel Francisco Marbil as New PNP Chief
MARBIL – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. appointed Rommel Francisco Marbil as the new Philippine National Police (PNP) chief.
The new commander of the 230,000-strong Philippine National Police is the former comptroller of the police force. On the same day that Malacañang made the announcement yesterday, Maj. Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, who led the PNP Directorate for Comptrollership, formally succeeded Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. as the 30th PNP commander.
Like Acorda, who retired after more than 37 years in the military, Marbil, 55, is a 1991 graduate of the Philippine Military Academy. President Marcos gave Marbil the directive to make sure PNP personnel would be “agents of transformation” and to head a police force that is “pro-God, pro-country, pro-people, pro-environment” during the change of command and retirement honors for Acorda at Camp Crame.
Based on a report from Philstar, Bongbong Marcos also assured Maj. Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil that he has his “full confidence” and “full support.”
“Let us work closely with you in addressing emerging threats, such as cybercrime, terrorism and transnational crimes. We shall continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and give the finest service to our beloved citizens,” PBBM said.
Marbil previously held positions as director of the Highway Patrol Group and chief of Police Regional Office 8, which is in charge of Eastern Visayas.
He graduated from Ateneo de Manila University with a master’s degree in public administration.
“Let us now ensure that the PNP will be agents of progressive transformation in the lives of our people by ensuring the safety and well-being of every community in the land,” he added.
According to the report, Malacañang released a statement a few hours before the ceremony of the change of command yesterday, announcing that Marcos had appointed police Lieutenant General Emmanuel Baloloy Peralta as the officer in charge of the PNP chief’s office.
The memo, dated March 27, was directed to Benhur Abalos, the Secretary of Interior and Local Government, whose department oversees the PNP.
Closing his address, Marcos expressed gratitude to the police force and their families for their sacrifices, encouraging them to approach the future with heightened enthusiasm, resolve, and hope to accomplish the nation’s objectives and aspirations.
“Let us remain vigilant in the face of challenges and opportunities, as we strive to build a Bagong Pilipinas where everyone can thrive and live in peace,” he added.
