Titanic Door: Prop That Kept Rose Alive Sells For $700K

The Titanic Door was sold for this whopping price

Titanic Door – The movie Titanic featured a prop, often referred to as a “door” and this was sold for over $700,000.

The movie, directed by James Cameron and starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo di Caprio, has become an iconic film. It was released in 1997 and its popularity continued to soar over the years.

One factor that still makes it popular is the debate about whether Rose and Jack could have survived if they were both on the piece of wood floating. Some fans believed the “door” prop could carry Rose and Jack.

Based on the article in BBC.com, James Cameron revealed he receives dozens of emails a day calling Rose “selfish” and Jack an “idiot” because of that scene when Rose survived while Jack died. The director pointed out that Jack had to die to follow the script.

Then, he admitted that they could have used a smaller piece of wood to justify what happened in the scene. “Maybe we screwed up and the board should have been a tiny bit smaller, but the dude’s going down,” the filmmaker said.

That piece of wood or “door”, measuring approx. 8′ long (2.4m) and 41″ (1m) wide, was sold at a hefty price. It was often referred to as a door but was based on a complete piece of debris salvaged from the 1912 tragedy, Heritage Auctions stated. This piece of wood was sold at an auction for $718,750, or approximately Php 40,448,726.

The whip from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was also sold at the auction, which cost $525,000 while Toby Maguire’s Spiderman costume was worth $125,000. Another auction winner paid the same amount for an axe used by Jack Nicholson in The Shining to hack through a bathroom door while announcing “Here’s Johnny!
