DepEd Warns Public vs Fake Scholarship Grants Being Offered Online
DEPED – The Department of Education has issued a warning to the public regarding fake scholarship grants being offered online.
On Monday (March 18, 2024), the Education Department warned individuals against falling for deceptive posts claiming to offer scholarship opportunities for students. DepEd made an advisory regarding the fake posts using the agency’s seal and photo.
The fake posts circulating on various social media platforms feature the photo and seal of Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte to deceive unsuspecting individuals, needing financial assistance.

The misleading posts offer P5,000 worth of financial grants for elementary students, P7,000 for high school students, and P10,000 for college and vocational students. The posts request students’ ID cards in exchange for the scholarships to convince the potential victims.
The agency discouraged the public from entertaining such posts and advised parents and guardians not to provide their children’s private information.
“Parents and guardians are strongly advised not to give out their children’s school information and identification to these kinds of hideous posts so as not to compromise their security,” the statement read.

DepEd emphasizes the importance of safeguarding students’ personal information and identities and preventing compromising their security.
The education department portrays the need for vigilance against misinformation and illegal practices, urging the public to remain vigilant and cautious of such offers.
This warning follows similar disinformation advisories that DepEd released on March 6 in response to misleading posts that claimed to be offering “pabaon” cash allowances of up to P5,000 to pupils in Grades 1 through 6.

To be eligible for these posts, which also included pictures of the Vice President, one only needed to present an ID card.
