Consumer Expresses Dismay After Electric Company Demands Payment for Neighbor’s Bill
A consumer expresses disappointment after the power company demands payment for their neighbor’s unpaid bill before reconnecting their electricity.
An anonymous member of the Facebook group “BACOLOD EXPOSED 2.0” informed the online community regarding the inappropriate policy of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CENECO).
The electric company allegedly requires consumers to settle their neighbor’s overdue bills before reconnection. If your neighbor has not paid their bill for a long time, CENECO will transfer the debt to your account.
The firm allegedly won’t let you pay unless you coordinate with your neighbor to settle the debt.
The consumer was urged to pay the neighbor’s electric bill before they could settle the payment for the restoration of their electricity. The latter refused to pay for other people’s bills and reiterated that they should not be held responsible for someone else’s bill.
The complainant described CENECO’s actions as disrespectful and unfair. The company seeks confrontation rather than resolution.
The incident raises serious concerns about consumer rights and fair billing practices. Consumers should not be held accountable for the debts of others, especially without proper explanation or transparency from the electric company.
Consumers deserve respect, transparency, and fairness in their dealings with utility companies. It is through constructive dialogue and cooperation that meaningful solutions can be reached to address the concerns of all parties involved.
