Popular Japanese Manga Artist Akira Toriyama Dies at 68

DRAGON BALL CREATOR – The popular Japanese manga artist Akira Toriyama has passed away at the age of 68.

Dragon Ball is a popular Japanese manga (comic) and anime (animated television series) created by Akira Toriyama. It was first serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine from 1984 to 1995.

The story follows the adventures of Son Goku, a young martial artist with superhuman abilities, as he embarks on a quest to find the Dragon Balls, magical orbs that summon a wish-granting dragon when gathered together.

As Goku and his friends’ journey across the world, they encounter powerful adversaries, train to become stronger, and unlock new abilities through martial arts and ki manipulation.

On Friday (March 8, 2024), the production team of Akira Toriyama announced the passing of the Japanese anime creator. The manga artist reported died due to acute subdural hematoma, according to his team.

We are deeply saddened to inform you that Manga creator Akira Toriyama passed away on March 1st due to acute subdural hematoma,” the group said in a statement.

The official Twitter/X account of the “Dragon Ball” franchise expressed their grief while announcing the sad news. He had still works left including manga titles. The group is hoping that people will still love his works.

He would have many more things to achieve. However, he has left many manga titles and works of art to this world,” the team added.

Meanwhile, “One Piece” creator Eiichiro Oda and “Naruto” creator Masashi Kishimoto have expressed their grief for the loss of one of the greatest manga writers of all time.

“With respect and gratitude for Akira Toriyama-sensei’s rich creative world, I sincerely pray for his peaceful rest,” Oda said.

“Sensei was always my guiding star. I admired him. Sensei might find it bothersome, but I’m grateful anyway. He was truly a god of salvation and manga to me,” Kishimoto said.
