Batangas Police Officer Hospitalized After Gun Inside His Bag Went Off

Batangas Police Officer Sustained Injuries After Gun Inside His Bag Accidentally Discharged

A Batangas police officer was hospitalized after his gun accidentally discharged from inside his bag, hitting him in the left side of his chest.

The incident happened when the officer was handling his belongings during a transaction, transferring them from his old vehicle to a new one. As he picked up another bag that had fallen to the ground, the 9mm handgun inside his bag unexpectedly fired.

Lipa City Police Station Chief Investigator PCAPT. Ricardo Cuevas said that the officer was in the process of swapping vehicles when the mishap occurred.

So, after transaction, nag-aayos na sila, so inililipat niya na iyong mga gamit niya from doon sa lumang sasakyan niya, papunta doon sa bagong sasakyan, it so happened na nahulog yung isang sling bag, pupulutin niya na iyon,” Cuevas said.

The injured police officer is currently recovering at a hospital in Lipa City. Cuevas speculated that an object inside the bag might have accidentally triggered the firearm.

Cuevas emphasized the importance of complying with basic safety rules among his fellow officers and recommended the use of belt bags to minimize the risk of accidental discharges.

The incident reminds the public of the importance of firearm safety and proper handling procedures, especially among law enforcement officers who carry firearms as part of their duty.
