GSIS SEPARATION BENEFIT – Here is a guide on the benefit offer for the members who got separated from service prior to retirement.
One of the wisest moves to make is to enjoy the present while preparing for the future. One way to do it is to regularly post monthly contributions to a state-run social insurance institution that provides retirement benefits to make sure you allot of what you earn now for the later years.
In the Philippines, one of the state-run social insurance giants is the Government Service Insurance System or more popularly called the GSIS. It has the Retirement Benefit offer as well as the GSIS Separation Benefit.
Undeniably, among the many benefit offers of the state entity, it is the GSIS Retirement Benefit that the members look forward to the most. It is the benefit offer that serves as the goal of the members. However, not everyone may make it to retirement and this is where the advantage of a GSIS Separation Benefit sets in.
Under the GSIS Separation Benefit, the member may be granted a cash payment in the event of having been separated from service prior to retirement. It can either be a cash payment or a cash payment and a pension as per the state entity. Here are the qualifications:
- been in the service for at least three years but less than 15 years, and below 60 years of age
- in the service for at least 15 years and is below 60 years of age
How much a member may get under the Separation Benefit? It actually depends on the length of service of the member who got separated from government service.
- If the member has been in the service for a minimum of three (3) years but less than 15 years, and below 60 years of age, he/she may be entitled to a cash payment equivalent to 100% of the Average Monthly Compensation.
- If the member has been in the service for a minimum of 15 years and is below 60 years of age, he/she may be entitled to a cash payment “equivalent to 18 times the Basic Monthly Pension (BMP) payable upon separation and monthly pension for life starting at age 60”.
