Desperate Man Shoplifts Clothes & Bag to Wear on Valentine’s Day
A desperate man was caught shoplifting clothes and a bag from a department store to wear on Valentine’s Day.
On Sunday (February 11, 2024), a 32-year-old man identified as Kenneth Cobilla Corillo was caught stealing several products from a department store. He planned to wear the stolen goods on Hearts Day.
Corillo, a native of Tacloban City in Leyte, is currently unemployed and resides in Sitio Zapanta, Barangay Tejero in Cebu City.
Waterfront Police Station Deputy Station Commander Lieutenant Norvin Noceda reported that a department store employee saw the suspect staring at the displayed products like any other customer.
The suspect took several pieces of clothes and a bag from the display. However, he secretly placed the items inside his bag. He skipped the cashier and quickly left the store.
Luckily, another crew member monitoring the shoplifter was able to apprehend him when he exited the store. The staff asked for a receipt, but he failed to present one. Kenneth claimed that he purchased the bag from another store.
The employee found his alibi suspicious due to the price tag attached to the bag. The culprit was then invited to the administrator’s office. The employees found several items with tags still on during the investigation.
According to a police investigation, Corillo stole four T-shirts, two pairs of pants, and a bag worth P5,608. Around 8:20 p.m., Corillo was taken into custody and given over to the Waterfront Police Station as a result of a citizen’s arrest.
Noceda stated that the suspect in the shoplifting case informed the police that he had taken the things because he intended to wear them to a Valentine’s Day celebration in Leyte.

However, Corillo is spending Valentine’s Day at the Waterfront Police Station detention facility rather than at the party. Noceda further mentioned that on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, they had filed theft charges against Corillo at the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office.
