Security Guard Lost His Life After Saving Drowning Minors in Liloan, Cebu
An 18-year-old security guard lost his life while rescuing two minors from drowning at a beach in Barangay Catarman, Liloan town.
On Sunday (February 4, 2024), the brave young man, Judel Escorel from Barangay Poog, Toledo City is working as a security guard while pursuing his studies.
Escorel is performing his duty when he spots two minors in distress while swimming with their family from Consolacion. Witnesses reported that the guard ran into action without hesitation, swimming out to rescue the drowning kids.
The brave security personnel successfully saved the minors but he was swept by the strong current.
Liloan Police Station Chief Police Major Eric Gingoyon commended Escorel’s courage and skill in swimming. However, he noted that the powerful current likely depleted Escorel’s strength, leaving him vulnerable to the forces of the sea.
“Kamao gyud ni siya molangoy kay naluwas man niya tong duha pero ang problema lang base sa giingon sa witness nakakita kusog gyud kaayo ang sulog and probably naluya na sad gyud to siya kay ang instinct man gud kung ang usa ka tawo malunod kung naay motabang niya ilaha gyud ng birahon paubos para sila makasaka, isa to sa factor probably nahurot gyud iyang kusog,” Gingoyon explained.
(His instinct was to prioritize the safety of others, which is commendable. However, in the process of saving the minors, he may have exhausted himself)
Eventually, the victim’s body was later recovered near the Suba bridge in Barangay Poblacion. His family in Toledo City was informed of the tragic incident, and they sought assistance from the security agency.
Meanwhile, authorities are investigating any potential liability on the part of the family of the minors involved.
