PAGASA Says LPA’s Trough to Affect PH Weather Condition

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that a trough of a low-pressure area will bring rains over parts of the country.

On Friday (February 2, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The LPA’s trough and northeast monsoon will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA reported that the northeast monsoon will be affecting Luzon while the trough of the Low-Pressure Area will affect Mindanao. The LPA was located 310 kilometers south of Zamboanga City.

The trough of LPA will bring cloudy weather conditions with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Mindanao, Central Visayas, Negros Occidental, and Southern Leyte.

“Maulang panahon pa din ang mararanasan ng ating mga kababayan sa Mindanao dulot ng trough or extension ng low pressure area na nasa labas ng Philippine area of responsibility,” weather specialist Benison Estareja.

Amihan will bring cloudy skies with light rains over Aurora, Quezon, and the Bicol Region.

It will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

The LPA’s and localized thunderstorms will bring similar weather conditions over the Visayas.

The LPA has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone and may dissipate this weekend. “Within 24 hours, inaasahan natin na kikilos [itong LPA] westward…papalapit dito sa may Sabah, Malaysia at posibleng malusaw na din  po over the weekend,” Estareja added.

The weather agency has warned the public of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains and severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over the eastern sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The remaining parts of the country will have slight to moderate surrounding sea conditions, according to PAGASA.

No gale warning issue was raised on any seaboard of the country.
