PURA LUKA VEGA – Drag artist Pura Luka Vega broke her silence about the situation involving Youtuber Toni Fowler, who recently received an arrest order for purportedly violating the Cybercrime Prevention Act.

In September 2023, Toni Fowler, a popular Filipina vlogger, found herself facing legal charges over her controversial “MPL” music video, as charges were filed against her by the Kapisanan ng Social Media Broadcasters ng Pilipinas (KSMBPI).

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) informed the public that the video did not receive a Strong Parental Guidance (SPG) rating from them. However, MTRCB clarified that they lack jurisdiction over online streaming platforms such as YouTube, as their authority is limited to movies and TV programs.

MTRCB indicated that if they were to review the video, it would likely be given a rating of “Not for Public Exhibition” or an “X.” The charges against Fowler allege a violation of the Revised Penal Code Section 201 in relation to the Cybercrime Law, and these charges have been formally filed with the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office.

In response to the filed charges, Fowler addressed the issues raised by KSMBPI and expressed her willingness to face the charges. She promptly took action by posting bail, which amounted to Php 120,000.00, on a Friday afternoon, as reported by ABS-CBN.

Pura Luka Vega is among those who shared their thoughts on the news of an arrest order against Toni Fowler. According to her, Toni was just expressing herself through her art.

Pura questioned the action taken, stating that it seems to target individuals who are merely expressing themselves through their art. She added that, as she mentioned before, people have the choice not to watch content they don’t like.

“What is your definition of “morality”? Why are we going after people who are expressing themselves through their art? I’ve said this before and I will say it again, if you don’t like what you are seeing/hearing, then simply move on and find the ones you like.”
