Jo Koy’s Mom Expresses Dismay Towards Fellow Filipinos Who Criticized Host of Golden Globes 2024
JO KOY – Josie Harrison expressed her dissatisfaction with fellow Filipinos who criticized the host of the 2024 Golden Globes.
Josie Harrison, the mother of Filipino-American stand-up comedian Jo Koy, expressed her sentiments regarding the intense criticism her son received as the host of this year’s Golden Globes. The prestigious annual Hollywood awarding ceremony took place on January 8, 2024.
This marked Jo Koy’s first major hosting opportunity. Unfortunately, he faced overwhelming criticism, with his performance as host being labeled as “boring,” “not funny,” and a “disaster.” However, if there’s anything that disappoints Jo Koy’s mother, it’s fellow Filipinos who criticize her son.
According to Josie Harrison, many people are unaware of how demanding Jo Koy’s job is. She says that Jo Koy needs to consider his endorsers and meet their expectations.
“I know Jo is trying to please each one of them, so nobody’s perfect,” emotionally stated Josie in an interview with Bev Llorente of ABS-CBN News.
“Nalungkot ako sa iba, lalo na kapag nakita ko ang source ng naysayers, should I say, e, mga Pilipino. I was kinda disappointed.”
As fellow countrymen, she hopes that they would show more support for her son instead of being critical.
Kaya naman I represent them the best [way] I can.’”
Josie believes that her son did everything within his power to represent the Filipino and Asian community. She said, “Asian-Pacific community should take pride that Jo Koy represented Pinoys in the best possible manner.”
She cited as evidence the numerous mentions of his Filipino mother in his monologue.
“Jo Koy is a Filipino and I know he was doing it for the sake of the Asian group. And I know he was proud of that,” said Josie.
“Ang masasabi ko lang sa kanila ay ito, hindi po napakadali ang magsalita ng ganyan. Hindi ganon kadali maging komedyante, kagaya ng anak ko.
“Gaya ng sabi ko, ang isang komedyante they try to please you. They try to make you laugh, to make you smile. Yun ang naging trabaho ni Jo nung gabing iyon.”
She advised her son, “don’t be so concerned about the naysayers dahil you cannot please everybody.”
Josie is certain that, despite what happened to her son, she is a proud mom. There were also fellow Filipinos who supported Jo Koy amidst the issue.
