PAGASA Says Amihan and Shear Line to Affect PH Weather Condition

PAGASA – The state weather bureau reported that the northeast monsoon and shear line are expected to bring rains over parts of the country.

On Wednesday (January 17, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The shear line and amihan will continue to affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA state weather expert Obet Badrina reported that the shear line will be affecting the eastern section of Mindanao while the amihan will be affecting Luzon and Visayas.

The shear line will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Mindanao.

Amihan will bring cloudy skies with light rains over the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, and Camarines Norte.

The northeast monsoon will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

“For the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, we may expect generally fair weather conditions but isolated light rains are still possible due to the northeast monsoon,” Badrina said.

Generally fair weather is expected over Palawan and Visayas except for some chances of light rainfall.

No low-pressure areas are forming within the Philippine area of responsibility, according to Badrina.

The weather agency warned the public of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains and severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the coastal water conditions over the northern and eastern sections of the country will be rough. Moderate to rough surrounding sea conditions are expected over the remaining parts of the country.

“Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards,” PAGASA said.

A Gale warning was raised over the coasts of Northern Luzon, Central and Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
