In the Philippines, one of the state-run social insurance giant which has several offers for its members is the SSS or the Social Security System. There are several loans and benefit offers that are exclusive for its qualified members.

Aside from the SSS loans that attend to different needs, the Social Security System also has the benefit offers which include the SSS Death Benefit or also called the SSS Death Claim. It was designed to financially help the beneficiaries and dependents of a deceased SSS member.

Undeniably, the Death Claim offer only shows that the advantages of an updated account to the state-run social insurance institution may extend to the loved ones of an SSS member. For convenience, the beneficiaries may file for the grant through an SSS Death Claim online application.

Before we talk about the steps for the SSS Death Claim online application, let us first talk about the amount that beneficiaries may get under the SSS Death Benefit offer. It may either be a monthly pension or a lump sum depending on the total number of contributions posted by the member prior to the semester of death.

If the deceased member has posted at least 36 monthy contributions, his/her beneficiaries may be granted with a Death Benefit pension. Otherwise, a lump sum will be given.

The primary beneficiaries are the spouse and the dependent children or those who are below 21 years old. If there are no primary beneficiaries, the claim may be processed by the secondary beneficiaries which are the dependent parents of the deceased SSS member. Here are the SSS Death Claim online application process:

Step 1 — Check the Eligibilities. The member must have an active account to the SSS and you must be a primary or secondary beneficiary of the member or the legal heir in the absence of the primary and secondary beneficiaries.

Step 2 — Prepare scanned copies of the SSS Death Benefit requirements. You will have to upload them later on.

Step 3 — Log in to your My.SSS account. Go to the “E-Services” section and click the “Death Benefit Claim Application” option. Click on it to begin the process.

Step 4 — Accomplish the online application form. You will be asked of the following details:

  • your personal information
  • the deceased member’s details
  • information regarding your marital status

Step 5 — Enroll your disbursement account. You need to enroll the account where you prefer the claim to be disbursed. You will have to provide your bank details

Step 6 — Upload the supporting documents. Make sure that the documents are clear and legible.

Step 7 — Review all the information you provided. Click “Submit” once you are done.

Step 8 — Wait for the confirmation and processing. The SSS will send you a confirmation after you have submitted your claim application. Wait for an update on the status of your application.
